4차 산업 혁명이란 거품과 함께 경제적으로 더 빠르고 더 효율적이고 더 많은 양의 데이터를 수집하는 새로운 영역의 영토 전쟁 시대에 들어섰다. 이 또한 자본의 가치를 중심으로 앞을 보고 달린다. 우리는 데이터가 아직도 낯설고 추상적인 형태라고 느끼지만, 데이터는 마치 민주주의적, 자율적 그리고 누구에게나 열린 정보의 투명성을 가진 것 같은 착시 현상을 우리에게 주며 인간의 주체성을 뒤흔들고 있다. 주체성의 진정성과 자율성의 아이러니 또한 혼란스러운 데이터의 흐름 속에서 길을 잃은 듯 하다. A.I.MAGINE 전시와 연계 행사는 이러한 혼란을 단순히 흑과 백, 인간과 인공지능으로 분리해서 보는 시점에서 나아가 인간과 인공지능의 관계에 그 시선을 집중하고자 한다.

우리가 상상하는 사차원 현실 안에서
이 좌표들이 모인다고 상상해보자.
모이는 지점을 ‘우연'이라고 하자.
우리가 상상하는 사차원 현실안에서
이 우연들 사이에 일어나는 파동-입자 활동을 상상해보자.
이 활동을 ‘관계'라고 하자.
이제 불규칙한 카오스와 복합적이자 다면적인 사차원 현실 안에서 여러 개의 다양한 우연과 관계들을 상상해보자.
우리가 현실을 지각하는 시선의 테두리에서 시작해, 우선 현실을 재구성해 상상해 본다. 양분으로 분열된 현실이 아닌 양분의 좌표들이 공존하고 그 사이와 주위에 형성되는 복합적 우연과 관계가 끊임없이 이동하는 복합적 차원의 현실을 상상해 본다. 이 구조 체계를 기반으로 '상대방[other]'과 나 또는 객체와 주체의 주체성, 특히 인공지능과 인간의 주체성을 살펴본다. 주체성을 재구성하는 접근은, 인간 중심적 시선에서 더 나아가 비-인간 즉 기계, 동물 등으로 확장된 인간적 접근을 유도한다. 대립하는 두 개의 요소의 혼합에서 '나'를 상대방과의 관계 안에서 보고 상대방을 '나'와의 관계 안에서 보는 현실, 즉 인공지능과 인간이 공존하고 관계하는 현실이다. 나아가 이 관계를 조명하기 위해 인공지능이 인간을 보는 시선을 알아보고, 비-인간과 인간의 현실이 하나가 되는 실험을 통해 이 관계를 복잡화한다.
이번 A.I.MAGINE에서는 8팀의 다양한 장르의 작가와 엔지니어로 구성된 콜렉티브와 함께 A.I. 기술과 이념을 응용하고 표출한다. 3개의 공간에서 진행되는 이번 전시는 사운드 퍼포먼스, 인터랙티브한 로봇 팔, 가상현실, 증강현실, 애니메이션, 게임 설치물 등의 작품들을 선보인다. 오늘날 도시 환경과 도시 재생, 미세먼지, 인공과학을 기반으로 한 성 선택에서, 인간의 표정을 해석하는 인공지능의 시선, 가상 및 증강현실에서의 인간과 인공지능이 공존하는 초현실성까지 포괄하는 주제를 살펴본다. 또한, 작가, 과학자, 이론가, 철학자와 함께 이분법적 논리 구조의 대안으로 제안하는 우주론[cosmology], 생물학적 및 기계적 사유의 공존, 음악이 인간의 두뇌에 주는 영향과 뉴런 알고리즘의 청각화, 추상적 데이터의 시각화와 인간의 정신세계가 기술을 통해 어떤 반응을 일으키는지 등에 대한 주제를 다루는 인문학 강연 3회, 마지막으로 A.I.MAGINE 프로젝트에 참여한 작가와 큐레이터와의 각 작품과 전체적 전시에 대한 대화 2회를 진행한다.

‘The Fourth Industrial Revolution’ is the current buzzword in Korea as it mingles with the digital era within its context of vast and rapid economic growth, From micro to macro level, this heightened digitization with speedier and vaster amount of data acquirement is the new territorial competition. With that, the irony of authentic and autonomous subjectivity is lost within this chaotic flow of data seemingly available, democratic, free, and open to all in a whole new incomprehensible form. “A.I.MAGINE” examines this sense of confusion by shifting the focus to the relations of Human and Artificial Intelligence.

Now imagine multiple coincidences and relations in a multi-layered four dimensional reality of disorderly chaos and complexities.
The project questions the fundamental perception of reality and reframes reality in a complex dimension of ‘complex composition’ of coordinates. With this compositional framework as a basis, it addresses subjectivity in both others and I specifically in A.I and Human. In exploring these questions, it looks toward de-centering the human-centered perception to a non-human one, that is post-human and in keeping with humanism. As contradictory and counter-intuitive as it sounds, this very dichotomic blend in looking at the ‘other' in relation to the subjective ‘I’ has sparked new and creative processes in breaking the so called thinking outside the 'box’ as was in the case of ‘Alpha-Go’. It further seeks to complexify the relations of A.I. and Human by exploring 'A.I.’s perception' of human and finally 'fusing' non-human and human realities.
With eight collectives of artists and engineers, the project brings together a multi-venue exhibition appropriating and addressing A.I. technology and or ideologies with multiple mediums including sound performances, interactive robot arm, VR, AR, animation and game installation works. The artworks create multiple dimensions addressing various topics from the current urban environment of regeneration, fine dust pollution, A.I.'s interpretation of human facial expressions, amalgamating various realities. A series of interdisciplinary lectures and panel talks with artists, researchers, theorists and philosophers address topics of complex geometry within the relationship between human and A.I.; the interplay of algorithm, neuron and music; and transformation of human cognition and psychology through Data Visualization and A.I. Finally, a series of artists and curator talk opens up the discussion of the exhibition and each work in its technical and conceptual process of it all coming together.
