여성(젠더)과 예술, 기술의 문제를 탐구하는 황 수경과 여인영의 연구모임인 소사(Sosa)1는 한국의과거역사속여성이개별존재로인식 되지 못하고, 기록에서 배제되었던 익명의 의 미를 담고 있다.
콜렉티브 소사(Sosa)의 첫 번째 프로젝트인 ‘유리블록’은 여성의 사회 진출에 제약을 거는 보이지 않는 장벽을 뜻하는 ‘유리천장’과, 일상 속에 침투하고 있는 분산형 데이터 저장 기술 ‘블록체인’의 합성어이다. 소사는 한국 여성, 성 소수자,디지털기술의소외자등중심에서지 못한 이들의 이야기와 그 기록의 중요성을 인 지하는 동시에 기술철학을 중심으로 동학과 블록체인의 탈중앙적 구조와 교차점에 대한 연구 를 진행하고 있다. 즉, 과거의 데이터베이스에 서 누락되고 배제된 여성과 소수자의 기록이, 기술 발전에도 불구하고 반복되는 현상에 의문 을 가지고, 데이터를 다시 정리 및 확정하는 과 정을 통해 비선형적이고 자율적인, 탈중심화된 디지털 아카이빙을 시도한다. 더불어, 프로젝 트 기간 동안 과정을 중심으로 하는 소통과 담 론을 생산하며 장기적으로 한국 예술의 국제적, 기술적 확장을 도모하려 한다.
이에 소사는 이번 인미공 창작소를 통해 자본 중심으로 돌아가는 블록체인 시스템 그리고 앞 서 언급한 이들의 서사가 배제되는 문제점을 인 지하여 국내 예술계에서 실질적으로 적용할 수 있는 아카이빙 프로젝트를 기획한다. 블록체인 기술 개념을 활용한 디지털 아카이브를 기반으 로 국내외 문화이론, 기술 그리고 철학자들의 동시대 담론을 다학제적으로 연구하여 타 분야 및 국내외를 연결하고자 한다.
《도넛을 휘감아 돌아》에서는 이러한 과정을 거쳐 진행된 프로젝트 유리블록의 프로토타입 과 아카이브를 만날 수 있으며, 동학, 블록체인, 젠더, 기술, 예술의 탈중앙화 개념이 교차하는 장이라할수있다.
Sosa is an artist collective based in Seoul (SuKyung Hwang, InYoung Yeo). The collective starts with gender and technology as the main area of artistic research, further highlighting the lack of and anonymity of the female narratives in the Korean history archive, the collective borrows the word ‘Sosa’ from the one female figure found in the history of Donghak.
Alluding from the lack of archive on women in Korean history, gender seg- regation, the disconnect of women and eastern narratives in the arts and how this lack of resource or data repeat in dig- ital archives, the project Glass-Block is a research project re-collecting, re-con- necting and re-organizing archives of various disciplines with the intersecting ideas of ‘decentralization’ from both Donghak and DAOWO. The project ques- tions both the structure and the context of the Korean contemporary art archive through the concepts and ideas of Dong- hak, DAOWO, Gender and Technology. How the Donut Twirls presents the proto- type and archives of the research project Glass-Block. In addressing the research questions, Sosa met with experts from multiple disciplines including artists, curators, archivists, historians, develop- ers, blockchain COOs, Donghak Peasant Revolution Foundation researcher, and writer. With the intersecting idea of ‘de- centralization’ from Donghak, Blockchain, Gender, Technology and Arts, the exhibition creates a space of dispersive thoughts and archives, encompassing both the possibilities and critical ques- tions on the idea of decentralization.
